Demo at Steam's Next Fest

We have fixed the plan for the release of the Draw of Destiny Demo on Steam. The Next Fest is coming on 23rd of February, and our demo will be there.

In the meantime, we will work on an idea that could change Draw of Destiny in important ways. With this idea, we could improve two parts of the game, that we have currently addressed in basic ways, only.

  • Onboarding, and
  • Meta-Progression

Onboarding

The game has some special features, that are novel for the genre. E.g., you can build a new deck before each fight with spare cards from your library.

Meta-Progression

DoD 0.5 has one meta progression element: in a run, you can discover new character cards, which will be available to you in the next runs.

If I am correct with the terminology, this makes it quite a roguelike game. When you make your first run, you have the same chances to win, compared to your 100th run. You gain no experience points to improve your arsenal, it only depends on your strategy and tactics. And a little luck, of course.

Our proposed change

The basic idea is to make the meta-progression much more relevant in the game, and at the same time take some of the complexity away for new players.

The most important progression stages will probably be packs of new cards to be available in runs. But we will also try to delay the introduction of the spare-card library to make decisions easier in the beginning. And a few other things, too.

Roguelike to Roguelite

At that point, Draw of Destiny would probably become a Roguelite.
