Hello Itch! DoD Release 0.5

It is 2 years now, since we made the decision to build this game together. The decision also included to be finished with that in just 1 years time, but you know ...

There is a golden rule in software development, which says:

Real time = Estimated time² × 2

So, if we put the estimated 1 year, we get

Real time = 1² × 2 = 2

So one more proof for the golden estimator's rule.

And although we are not done with the game, we uploaded the demo version to Itch.io, where you can get it and enjoy it.

Changelog

  • Much artwork throughout the game is improved, beginning with the intro screen, the deck and map screen, victory and game over screens and scenes.
  • New monsters we have. We hope, you will hate them ;-)
  • Game backgrounds have also received a big improvement.
  • We have reworked the ingame music. Most songs are now complete with vocals about the game world.
  • There is a new preview system in the game to show you the consequences of playing a card. At the moment, you start to drag a card, indicators show you what happens, when you release the card. Which is especially helpful for cards that can potentially kill yourself.
  • Translations! We added translations for popular languages: spanish, portugese, chinese, russian, korean, japanese, french, polish and german. These are auto-translations, and we are not able to check most of them ourselves. Please tell us, if a translation does not seem to be right.
  • We have reviewed all project files and cleaned up the whole project. As a result, the game is now much leaner, less than half a gig. Builds faster, loads faster, runs faster.
  • We have also done much work to prepare the mobile version (Android so far). The UI has become more flexible so things do not get too small. We also implemented touch user interaction.
  • The after the game victory screen, which gives you all the goodies you deserve for the next fight, is much better now. You can now consistently see your deck and the cards you gathered and lost.
  • And then, we have added a ton of effects. So that it crashes right when playing your cards.
  • The project now runs on the (currently) latest godot engine, v4.5.1, up from v4.3. We love godot so much, thank you all!!!
